Love Makes the World Go ‘Round

For centuries the heart has been deemed the central motivator of choices and actions in many cultures and belief systems.

The Bible tells us: “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he..” Proverbs 23: 7

A common saying entreats us to “Have a heart!” Meaning “take pity on me” or don’t be so hard on me.”

And if someone has betrayed or abandoned us, we often say:“That broke my heart.”

Laurel Huston, a personal mentor and coach, teaches that :
“Your head is a clock. Your heart is a compass.
When you are feeling lost, stop asking a clock for direction.”

That doesn’t mean we should not use our brains. They are a very important part of our nervous system. However, it has been shown that we make most of our decisions based not on the logic of our thoughts, but the logic of our hearts. And when the heart and the head are in agreement or alignment — and aligned with how God thinks, life flows more smoothly and we feel more centered and at peace with ourselves and others.

HeartMath Institute researchers have discovered that:

“The heart is the most powerful source of electromagnetic energy in the human body, producing the largest rhythmic electromagnetic field of any of the body’s organs. The heart’s electrical field is about 60 times greater in amplitude than the electrical activity generated by the brain.

“Furthermore, the magnetic field produced by the heart is more than 100 times greater in strength than the field generated by the brain and can be detected up to 3 feet away from the body, in all directions, using SQUID-based magnetometers, as shown by this image from the HeartMath publication “Science of the Heart.” (https://www.heartmath.org/research/science-of-the-heart/energetic-communication/)

This heart energy not only affects our own choices and behaviors, but influences those around us — more than we realize.

In his newest book, “The Heart Code,” Dr. Bradley Nelson, creator of the Emotion Code, Body Code and Belief Code shares that he has discovered that a some point during their life most people ( 93% of us) create a heart wall — an energetic wall built of emotions that the subconscious mind summons to defend the heart. Dr. Brad teaches that by identifying and removing heart walls lives can be changed for the better — sometimes dramatically changed.

He states: “The transformation that occurs when a Heart-Wall is released extends far beyond simple emotional relief. Physical ailments often mysteriously disappear, relationships blossom, and opportunities for joy seem to appear as if by divine arrangement. This isn’t coincidence but rather the natural result of allowing the heart’s energy– the most powerful healing force within us to flow unimpeded once again.”

The book contains a plethora of stories — testimonials of the life-changing effect of releasing a heart wall. Here is just one small example:

I had an obsession with food and developed a binge eating problem. It is gone. Immediately. No fighting in my mind about wanting more food, no worrying about if I can eat more without people noticing… it’s nothing short of amazing! I am not as tired, I feel lighter emotionally and mentally. I’m sleeping better, I’m excited about life again!”

This song from the movie “Carnival” contains a lot of truth, and has been a favorite of mine for a long time.

Love makes the world go ‘round

Love makes the world go ‘round

Somebody soon will love you

If no one loves you now.

High in some silent sky

Love sings a silver song

Making the earth whirl softly

Love makes the world go ‘round.”

God is love, and He created the Earth and sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to redeem us through His great Atonement. And Jesus did that because of His love for us — individually and collectively.  Indeed, love does make the world go ‘round.
